Judge Tells
Former Windsor Resident to Watch his Step
for the next 10 Years
CHESAPEAKE,
Va. A former Isle of Wight County man must keep
in step with the right side of the law for the next
10 years as directed by a Newport News Circuit Court
judge. William E. Turner, 32, was found guilty Thursday
(Nov. 21) of trying to get paid money for a job he never
had.
Turner was living in Windsor when he slipped and fell in a Williamsburg convenience store in October 2000. He was treated for his injuries incurred in the fall and filed a claim with his insurance company. Turner also claimed that he lost $1200 worth of wages because his injuries prevented him from doing his job as a hairdresser. An investigation by Special Agent R.L. Eley of the Chesapeake Office of the Virginia State Police Insurance Fraud Division and Special Investigator Phillip Wong with Erie Insurance Company proved otherwise. Not only was Turner not a state-licensed hairstylist, but the Sussex County shop where he said he worked did not exist. Turner was convicted of one felony count of attempting to obtain money under false pretense and received a five year suspended prison sentence on the condition of good behavior for the next 10 years. He also received one year of supervised probation. Turner currently resides in Tampa, Fla.
